DEAN H. RANDOLPH SWEARER Is

CLOSING DOWN

THE PRINTSHOP

To add a Starbucks & enlarge the cafeteria

THIS MAY

THIS Is HORRIFIC. What else are they going to close down? The last time we registered, this was an art school- not a restaurant!

Printmaking is an important medium for graphic designers, illustrators, product designers, fine artists, textiles and fashion designers. Printing is a versatile medium that has been around for centuries. Rembrandt knew how to paint, nonetheless his etchings have not only survived for centuries but been available to thousands who were interested in Printing and in him.

For the new dean to decide suddenly, that the print shop is inappropriate and "out of tune with today's technology," is ludicrous. Such a perception should not be taken lightly and certainly not without substantial input from the students who will be affected.

A FANCY cafeteria will hardly produce greater revenue than courses in printmaking. There are many places to eat- but few places where creative Printmaking is available.
