I am writing to you to present a position against the shutting down of the printmaking shop at Parsons.
I teach printmaking at the City College of New York and have taught printmaking at the San Francisco Art Institute in the past.
Printmaking is the area that has the strongest nexus with the new digital technologies that have emerged as the strongest area in art schools. I have taught numerous workshops on computers and printmaking, and know that students are eagar to learn how to convert the images they create in their computers to images on paper.
The educational value of a hands-on printshop are innumberable. Printmaking in all its media present important tools to the education of a contemporary artist.
